I was recently skimming through Etsy looking for fun new tools to inspire me, and I came across this neat set created by Frysmith in Alaska. It is a graphite paddle and taper set that allows you to make bottle stoppers and vessels with soft glass. Too freakin' cool! Check out the tool here and be sure to watch his how-to video also!

I have been very busy with my new space at Fresh Collective in Toronto! I have added new product (long feather pendants with beads....just wait until I take photos!) as well as new earrings which are listed on Etsy and are available in FC. What's happening on the Bauble Box Beat for 2010? Hmmm....the plan is to develop the "Helm" line to include more pieces and colours. Also, watch for more pendants. I am in love with the pendants and envision new shapes every time I close my eyes! I am in the design phase of yet another line which will be called something like "Hardwear" which will be closer to a hardcore/unisex line but still feminine enough for those of us who channel magpies.

More to come when I get back on the wagon....errr I mean the torch.

It would appear that everyone is loving the new "pysanky" pendants. I get drooled on wherever I go and photos online are being subject to indecent acts! Last night I went through my palette and created pysanky in about 8 other colour combos. I will post the latest additions to the family after I liberate them from the kiln and clean them.

Other new products include my new line of "pysanky" pendants which are inspired by Ukrainian Easter Eggs. While the traditional eggs are much more ornate (and not glass....) than this little guy they certainly serve to inspire!

I am in Northern Ontario near my home town at the Algonquin Motel working on a wholesale order for Groovy Glass Beads...where it all began! Tim and Martha took me under their wing in 2006....Martha taught me the basics of lampwork and in 2007 I was hired by her as the Groovy Glass Beads apprentice. Tim and Martha were kind enough to surprise me with all my own equipment----on the condition that I pay them back...in beads for their shop!! I paid them back in December of 2008. Merry Christmas indeed! Check out their groovy motel and bead shop here!

Hello....I am floating around in wholesale order la la land. I am working on a bunch of "wraps" as well as a request for "Pandora" style beads. I have added new items to my Etsy shop and have been attempting upload a new item a day. I am also working on replicating an acrylic necklace of my mother's....I shall post the pre/post when I finish the beast!

Right so thus far my Moxie Monday (courageous feats of strength) is reduced to dying a dress a dark plum for a film premiere of mine. I did costumes for a short film called Soap which is in the Toronto International Film Festival's shorts selection in September....so while everyone anxiously awaits the outcome (of the dye job that is)...here is a hand-made glass fancy to tide you over!

Moxie Monday! Courageous forays into the unknown!

This is my first attempt at a Czech style rod puppet (although not carved from wood). She is still awaiting a costume but is sitting in jammies for the moment.

I SWEAR my next post will be about glass! I've been on the torch prepping for my next show (Danforth East Arts Fair Sept 19/20)

Moxie Monday!

It's that time again...Moxie Monday: courageous undertakings!

Although not a new skill...I did try a new technique....I baked the eyelids around the glass eyes (which are hand-made by me too) before moulding them into the rest of the head.

Note: The expression on the puppet head mimics how I felt after 5 hours in a car returning from a puppet festival (which was amazing...but the car ride was not!)

This week it was....THE LINOCUT!

I took an illustration of my puppet, Dag done by Holly Main and transferred the image onto the lino and carved him out. Woah!

Wax Ring Carving---first attempt!

I recently expressed an interest in lost wax carving to my friend Hannah Cowan, a jewelry designer and goldsmith in Toronto. She explained some basic principles/techniques

and sent me on my way with a hacksaw and a tube of wax. Here is my first attempt to teach myself this art...so much more to learn.....!!

New Collection Launched on Etsy!

I am very pleased to announce that hunkering down with the torch has paid off!

I have posted quite a few new pieces in my shop.

The first is my line of abstract glass key necklaces called "Key/Chains". The second is a line of glass ring/chain concoctions entitled "Umlaut".

The third series of items are the first in my new collection called "Bezaire" which are so-called after a friend of mine who has inspired me to get in touch with my classy girly side (not that I lack one...I maybe misplaced it under a radial arm saw, a bicycle and a pile of silver chain!).
